The secret is to practice

by jeff on March 26, 2009

My most recent contact with an amazing drummer and griot Mohamed Bangoura reminded me of the basics of how to progress in my learning curve. In his classes a number of times he said the secret to learning djembe is to practice.

This advice is backed up by many new studies that prove intense practice of an activity will “build” physical nerve cells that actually remember and store the actions. And the best way to maintain long hours of practice is to choose an activity that you are passionate about and rewards you with enjoyment. This activity will put you into “the zone”.  Time will be of no concern as you focus, train, and “follow your bliss”.

Time for me to go play my drum   :-)
